The tire industry will join the scope of energy saving and carbon reduction upgrading

On July 4, the National Development and Reform Commission issued an important notice on its official website. Five departments of the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the "Benchmark Level and Benchmark Level of energy Efficiency in Key Industrial Areas (2023 version)".

The document further expanded the scope of energy saving and carbon reduction transformation and upgrading, and added 11 new fields such as radial tires. The newly joined industries should, in principle, complete technological transformation or exit by the end of 2026. Previously identified 25 areas such as iron and steel making, in principle to complete the relevant tasks by the end of 2025.

The move aims to speed up the pace of energy conservation and carbon reduction in relevant industries and further accelerate the progress of backward production capacity clearance. It is foreseeable that with the introduction of the new policy, the pace of clearing backward tire production capacity will be further accelerated. In fact, in some provinces where the tire industry is more concentrated, some progress has been made in eliminating inefficient production capacity.
